Fish and aquatic foods are one of the most accessible and affordable food sources that meet the nutritional requirements of approximately 3.1 billion people globally. It represents about 15.6% of animal protein supply and 5.6% of total protein supply.

The uniqueness of aquatic food protein accounts to its excellent nutritive value, high digestibility and presence of essential amino acids. In addition, it is loaded with other vital nutrients like poly-unsaturated fatty acids, minerals, vitamins.

WorldFish's Principal Scientist in sustainable aquaculture, Mohan Chadag, joined government and private sector representatives brought together by the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR) to discuss the benefits of fish and aquatic foods as versatile, tasty, easy and widely accepted food source to meet the challenges of malnutrition and food insecurity in India.
