The 50th plenary session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS 50) will be held to advance the CFS Global Strategic Framework, International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture 2022 (IYAFA2022) Global Plan of Action and SSF Guidelines and their recommendations on small-scale fisheries, the sustainable consumption of aquatic foods as well as social inclusion, gender equality and women empowerment in food systems.

The Global Action Network: Sustainable Food from the Oceans and Inland Waters for Food Security and Nutrition in collaboration with WorldFish and FAO, government representatives from leading nations in food production, research institutes and the UN Aquatic/Blue Food Coalition will come together to showcase solutions to empower women and engage young girls in sustainable aquatic food systems. The discussions will include impactful stories on the undervalued but critical role that women play in improving community access to sufficient, safe, nutritious foods that meet dietary needs and food preferences around the world.

The empowering “all women event” will be moderated by WorldFish's Global Lead in Nutrition and Public Health and 2021 World Food Prize Laureate, Shakuntala Haraksingh Thilsted, in the form of an interactive debate where the focus will be on different perspectives from low- or middle-income countries as well as high-income countries. The discussions will have a particular focus on young women and young girls as small-scale and artisanal food producers, their digital literacy and how this impacts the consumption, processing and production of aquatic foods throughout the supply chain.
