Grain Legumes for Health and Prosperity

The principal goal of the Grain Legumes CGIAR Research Program is to establish an international alliance capable of executing a global research for development program that produces transformational impacts in the areas of nutrition, health, environment, and income generation for smallholder farmers and their families. Our vision of success is to directly match the increases projected to take place in maize, wheat and rice production by 2020 and systematically increase legume crop productivity potential on route to 2050. By attempting to match the productivity gains projected for cereal crops, and by tying our efforts to the goals of other CGIAR Research Programs, we hope to ensure that the ratio between cereal and legume crop production that exists today is maintained, but also set the stage for improving that ratio over time.
