Framework and tools

WorldFish Framework for mainstreaming gender analysis in fisheries and aquaculture research and development (R & D)

The framework outlined here is intended to elaborate, explain and provide a matrix, as well as practical tools, for the process of mainstreaming gender analysis in fisheries and aquaculture research and development (R &D). The Introduction provides the rationale for gender analysis and a familiarization with basic gender-related concepts. Section I outlines the matrix for gender analysis in fisheries and aquaculture and the conceptual approach on which it is based, as well as a set of tools that help to simplify some parts of the matrix to a number of manageable steps. Section 2 outlines some options for gender analysis that can support practical project interventions, and the relevant sections of the analytical matrix that will be useful for this task. Section 3 provides a set of indicators to monitor and assess gender processes and impacts. A checklist is provided in Section 4 outlining the steps that need to be completed for successful gender mainstreaming in research-related projects. A list of potentially useful resources is included in the final section for those who wish to delve deeper into gender concerns and methods.
