The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is the government agency responsible for the development, improvement, management and conservation of fisheries and aquatic resources in the Philippines. BFAR is a line bureau under the Department of Agriculture. As a government agency, the bureau caries out a variety of functions aimed at the proper management and conservation of aquatic resources. BFAF aims to alleviate poverty through improved livelihoods, expanded sustainable access to offshore and deep-sea resources, and increased economic opportunity through improved aquaculture productivity and upgraded post-harvest technologies. BFAR aims to make national fisheries both sustainable and globally competitive.
