The goal of the proposed project is to improve food and nutrition security in the Indian state of Odisha. The project will lead to the introduction of nutrition-sensitive production technologies for nutrient-rich fish and vegetables in select districts of Odisha as well as increased production of fresh, high quality small fish and dried fish to make fish-based products for consumption in the first 1000 days of life.

Objectives

  1. Increase availability: Increase production, productivity and diversity of nutrient-rich fish from innovative aquaculture and capture fisheries’ technologies for household ponds, community ponds and inland freshwater reservoirs.
  2. Increase accessibility: Develop, market and distribute affordable, safe and nutritious fresh fish and fish-based products using production from aquaculture and capture fisheries, including Chilika Lake. Increase and expand distribution to reach multiple population groups through partnerships with the private sector and research institutes.
  3. Increase consumption: Implement social behavior change approaches, targeting the whole family, to promote increased nutrient-rich fish and vegetable consumption, especially in women and young children. Increase the knowledge and practice of essential nutrition and hygiene actions through partnerships with relevant local government programs, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and community-based
