The French Development Agency (Agence Française de Dévelopment; AFD) is a development finance institution that works on behalf of the French government. AFD is the main implementing agency for France’s development assistance to developing countries and overseas territories. AFD finances and supports development projects and programs using a wide range of financial instruments including grants and loans. It aims to promote sustainable economic growth, reduce poverty and improve living conditions for populations. AFD teams are based in Paris and Marseille, operating via a network of more than 70 offices in developing countries and the French overseas territories.
