The United Nations has proclaimed a Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) to support the sustainable development of the Ocean by bringing together stakeholders from the global ocean community to build partnerships in support of research innovations in ocean health, the blue economy, aquatic food systems and climate adaptation.
As mandated by the UN General Assembly, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO will coordinate the Decade’s preparatory process, starting with an international conference hosted by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research to kick-off the launch in Berlin.
WorldFish’s Research Program Leader, Value Chains and Nutrition, Shakuntala Thilsted, will share some of her work in leading the research in food security, nutrition and value chains at WorldFish and will draw from her latest experience as the Vice-Chair of the UN Food Systems Action Track 4: Equitable Livelihoods leadership team.
