The 2022 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is the main UN platform on sustainable development. It has a central role in the follow-up and review of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Women are involved in all aspects of the fisheries sector and stand to benefit disproportionately from fisheries, as the contribution of aquatic foods to vulnerable communities’ food security and nutrient intakes are particularly important for womens’ health and child development.

Under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Aquatic Blue Food Coalition in partnership with the Government of Iceland, Environmental Defense Fund, the SSF Hub and WorldFish, will gather small-scale fishery stakeholders with government officials to discuss the ways that building back from COVID and achieving the SDGs 5 and 14 will benefit the livelihoods of women in small-scale fishing communities and support policy action.

WorldFish's Social Inclusion and Market Scientist, Rahma Adam, has been invited to join a panel of small-scale fishery, aquaculture representatives and government officials from Latin America, Asia, and Africa to present her perspectives on the role and livelihoods of women and the rationale of gender equity and social inclusion in support of policy action for achieving SDGs 5 and 14 in global small-scale fisheries.

Stay up to date with the latest information by following WorldFish and the hashtag #aquaticfoods to join the virtual dialogue on Twitter.

We look forward to your active participation.
