The Beijer Institute is an international research institute of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Its major objectives are to research and stimulate cooperation to promote a better understanding of the relationship between ecological systems and social and economic development. It conducts collaborative research between economists and ecologists and related disciplines on problems pertaining to sustainability, as well as teaching and training on those issues nationally and internationally. The Beijer Institute was established in 1977 and reorganized in 1991 with a focus on ecological economics.
