The World Vegetable Center is a non-profit research and development institute headquartered in Taiwan. Its goal is to alleviate poverty and malnutrition through increased growing and eating of healthy vegetables. The center works with the private and public sectors to distribute better vegetable varieties and production methods in developing nations. Through research, networking, training and promotion, it raises awareness of the health and economic benefits of growing and eating vegetables, especially among the resource-poor. Originally named the Asian Vegetable Research and Development Centre (AVRDC), the World Vegetable Centre was founded in 1971.
