In this virtual launch event hosted by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with the World Resources Institute and the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy (Ocean Panel), private sector, non-governmental and intergovernmental organization leads, scientists, and government experts gathered to launch the Blue Food Partnership.

The Partnership is led by Friends of Ocean Action (FOA) and is informed by the Ocean Panel’s 2030 Ocean Food Priority Areas in the ‘Transformations for a Sustainable Ocean Economy.’ It seeks to understand the role of aquatic food systems and catalyze science-based actions to identify, scale and propel solutions towards sustainable aquaculture practices and improved loss and waste policies.

Through the collaboration between FOA and the Blue Food Assessment (BFA), WorldFish’s Global Lead in Nutrition and Public Health Shakuntala Thilsted joined the launch to provide her perspectives on potential synergies between the Blue Food Assessment and the Blue Food Partnership. She also presented invaluable insights on the importance of nutrition-sensitive approaches to both aquatic food systems and related food value chains.

As part of WorldFish’s continued efforts in placing aquatic food systems in the sustainable food systems agenda, Director General, Gareth Johnstone, has been appointed as a member of the Blue Food Partnership’s Sustainable Aquaculture 2030 Steering Group.
