The WorldFish-run Africa Aquaculture Research and Training Center (AARTC) offers training courses to investors, farmers, government officials, students, faculty members and other people interested in aquaculture production and business activities.

Fourteen trainees received hands-on training program related to genetics, production, and more topics during the three days training course of Aquaculture Development which took place from 28 July to 1 August 2019 at Abbassa, Abu-Hammad, Sharkia. The training has been sponsored by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Egyptian International Center for Agriculture (EICA). Trainees come from Burkina Faso, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Sudan, Tanzania and Togo.

Africa Aquaculture Research and Training Center is a regional center of excellence for genetics research, training in best management practices and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the African aquaculture sector. Opened in 1998, the WorldFish-run research center in Sharkia, Egypt has played an important role in the development of the aquaculture sector in both Egypt and sub-Saharan Africa. The center has developed faster-growing strains of tilapia and catfish and trained more than 2064 government officers, university staff, farmers, extension agents and researchers from 105 countries since 1999.
