The research looked at women and men researchers at different career stages to identify:

-What are the barriers to equitable career progression faced by African women scientists?

-How do African women scientists navigate career obstacles in research institutes?

-What do they want research institutions to do differently?

CGIAR's Women in Research and Science (WIRES) ERG will hold another session, Dr. Millicent Liani, a researcher at IITA, will draw on her Ph.D. research from three capacity-strengthening research consortia with partner institutions operating in 13 different countries across West, Central, Eastern, and Southern Africa. While Dr. Liani conducted her research in global health-based research institutions in Africa, she encountered many similar trends which echo the results we see emerging from the WIRES focus groups for women researchers across CGIAR.

Join us to reflect together on barriers to women’s career progression, explore ways of navigating obstacles, and consider what CGIAR can improve upon to provide an enabling environment for everyone.
