In a virtual lecture organized by the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), WorldFish's Global Lead for Nutrition and Public Health and the 2021 World Food Prize, Shakuntala Thilsted, led a lecture on aquatic food as 'super foods' with the potential to provide nutritious, safe and accessible diets with low environmental impact.

During the lecture, Thilsted introduced the Government of Odisha's ongoing initiative, in collaboration with WorldFish, to fight the triple burden of malnutrition faced by the population through the integration of nutrition-sensitive aquatic foods in government-led school meal programs.

Taking from the success of that, she urged national and regional governments to include aquatic foods into their national food-based dietary guidelines and make public procurement of aquatic foods for school feeding and social safety net program.
