A virtual conference exploring the relationship between water and our food systems and presents challenges and opportunities in achieving a secure food future for all.

Date: Sunday-Thursday, 3-28 October 2021

Reliable water resources and its improved management underpin our food systems, both in terms of the water needed to produce crops and livestock products, and ensuring the resilience of these systems to water-related shocks. Water insecurity is the greatest threat to global food security.

Following the UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) and their unique perspective on the interconnectedness between food systems and water, the Water for Food Global Forum hosted by Daugherty Global Institute at the University of Nebraska convened leading international experts, growers and organizations to focus on achieving global water and food security.

On Thursday, 7 October 2021 from 22:00-00:00 (UTC+8)CGIAR’s Managing Director for Research Delivery and Impact Claudia Sadoff, WorldFish’s Global Lead in Nutrition and Public Health Shakuntala Thilsted and IWMI’s Director General Mark Smith joined the panel discussion on ‘Water and Food Systems.’

Together they shared their perspectives on integrated food and water systems, particularly on advancing research and innovations in food systems and the power of aquatic foods from diverse water resources, such as oceans, rivers, lakes, inland water bodies, in providing healthy, sustainable diets that are water efficient and resilient against climate impacts.
