Sean believes that a scientifically literate society is essential to address complex societal and environmental issues as science-literate citizens will better understand how the world works and thus can better deal with problems through intelligent and informed decisions.
Before joining WorldFish, Sean was part of the start-up team that set up the science discovery centre in Penang, Malaysia. He oversaw the development and deployment of innovative science communications for various audiences through digital, social and traditional media.
Sean first came across WorldFish two decades ago when he had to utilize WorldFish’s resource center for his research work while pursuing his bachelor's degree in fisheries science. He also holds a master's degree in aquatic biology from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
In his free time, he volunteers in community improvement projects involving various stakeholders, including government agencies at local, state and federal levels, as well as civil society actors, the private sector and the general public.
Sean longs to travel again as he firmly believes that this is one of the best ways to experience different cultures. He took the opportunity to get his Open Water Diver certification at Pulau Perhentian when overseas travel was not permitted due to COVID-19 containment measures in 2020 and is looking forward to getting his Advanced certification soon.
