CSISA-Bangladesh celebrates International Women's Day

2 minutes read

CSISA-Bangladesh (CSISA-BD) organized a series of International Women's Day events to recognize the contributions of women farmers to agriculture in Barisal, Jessore and Mymensingh districts, Bangladesh.

The events culminated in a special half-day prizegiving where a video documentary celebrating the achievements of the women farmers in CSISA-BD region was shown and prizes were awarded to selected female farmers.

Female farmers from the region were recognized with certificates, crests and sewing machines (or other income generating rewards) for their contribution to local agriculture. Christian Portal, Chief of Party (COP) of CSISA-BD, William J. Collis, Director-South Asia of WorldFish and many CSISA officials and local dignitaries attended the honoring event.

CSISA-BD is dedicated to improving farming systems, productivity and cropping intensity in order to increase income and improve nutrition for farm households while also creating greater food security in Bangladesh. The organization is a collaboration between three CGIAR Consortium Research centers, IRRI, CIMMYT and WorldFish.

CSISA parent group, the USAID-funded Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia (CSISA) is part of the US President's Feed the Future initiative. Both organizations support the Bangladeshi Government's approved country investment plan.
