JICA Third Round Fish Catch & Biodiversity monitoring report_HFMLIP 2020

HFMLIP has assigned WorldFish to undertake impact monitoring activities on fish catch bio-diversity and livelihoods in project working areas. The HFMLIP has been intervening in fisheries resources management through a group approach called a Beel User Group (BUG). The BUG constitutes with fishers living around the water bodies and has been using the resources. This report covers third round fish catch and fish diversity status in HFMLIP waterbodies (25) and Control waterbodies (5) over the period of 2019-20. These results also treated in the following third-year status of fish catch and biodiversity. In addition, Fisheries production was measured in terms of major/organized catch (bulk catches made by beel user groups) and open catch monitoring (individual catches during flooding season) to validate the total catch at each waterbody. A total of 120 species of fish and prawn were recorded from both open and major catches in 2019-20 of which 114 species were recorded in open catch and 108 species were recorded in major catch from all project districts.
