A virtual discussion exploring actions needed to make global food systems more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and inclusive in the face of COVID-19.

Date: Wednesday, 19 January 2022-Thursday, 20 January 2022

Time: 22:30-00:00 (UTC+8)

In this webinar hosted by IFPRI and FAO North America, invited speakers from research, funding and private institutions came together to discuss the vulnerability of our food systems due to ongoing COVID-19 shocks and stresses.

The discussions centered on FAO’s The State of Food and Agriculture 2021, which presents country-level indicators of the resilience of food systems, measures the robustness of primary production and food availability, offers physical and economic access to food, and can thus help assess the capacity of national food systems to address global food insecurity and malnutrition.

The speakers explored the analysis on vulnerabilities of food supply chains and how rural households cope with risks and shock as well as the report's guidance for minimizing trade-offs as we develop policies to enhance food supply chain resilience, support livelihoods in the agrifood system and, in the face of disruption, solutions to ensure sustainable access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food for all.
