A virtual discussion exploring innovative solutions for a more inclusive and gender-equal blue economy.

Date: Tuesday, 16 March 2021

Time: 18:55-20:00 (UTC+8)

In the lead-up to UN Global Compact's Target Gender Equality Live, multi-sector leaders came together to discuss gender equality and female empowerment in key areas of the blue economy to ensure equal opportunities for all.

WorldFish’s Global Lead for Nutrition and Public Health, Shakuntala Thilsted, joined the expert panel to discuss the importance of championing women involved in aquatic food systems value chains in low- and middle-income countries.

Thilsted provided insight on how to support women's capacity in aquatic food systems by encouraging their participation in leadership roles, increasing the visibility of their contribution and improving accessibility to innovative technologies through public and private sector support, key to achieving SDG 5: Gender Equality by 2030.
