Our Ocean 2019

The ocean is essential to life on earth. For humans, it provides food, jobs, energy and communication highways. The ocean helps regulate our climate, controls weather patterns and produces oxygen for us to breathe. However, today the ocean is under threat from the effects of climate change, over-fishing, pollution and loss of biodiversity. Safeguarding the ocean for future generations is a shared responsibility and a matter of global urgency.

World Fish Migration Day: Panel Discussion on Protecting Fish Migration for People and Nature

To commemorate World Fish Migration Day, a panel discussion was held in Bago, Myanmar and virtually on Zoom, to raise awareness on the importance of free-flowing rivers for productive fisheries with decision makers, civic society organizations and development organizations within Myanmar.

The Board’s primary mission is the setting of policy ensuring the achievement of the Center’s stated goals and objectives within the mandate of the CGIAR System as well as to ensure both of the scientific excellence of the Center and the relevance of the Center’s work for its partners and beneficiaries.

It is further hindered by climate change, which disproportionally affects agriculture and threatens the achievement of SDG targets on food security and poverty.

World Rivers Day

In 2020, World Rivers Day was a celebration of the world's waterways. It highlighted the many values of rivers and strives to increase public awareness and hopefully encouraged the improved stewardship of rivers around the world. Rivers in every country face an array of threats, and only our active involvement ensured their health in the years ahead.
